Lava pools are actually pretty common near the spawn. Along with this one, I also found another pool at 106,79,599 and a flowing lava source at 206,64,455.

X: 154 / Y: 120 / Z: 638

This mountain is so big, that the building limit is only 7 blocks higher! Along with steep slopes and a valley right next to it (next image,) this mountain is very unique.

X: 98 / Y: 67 / Z: 630

The valley has very few entrances and very steep slopes, making this ideally a great place to camp. It also contains some small caves with easy-to-access coal and iron.
