Spawn directly in a village, no walk. The blacksmith chest reveals some minor loot, including an iron pickaxe.
At the edge of the village, a ravine full of material is hidden. Some minor digging down required.

Not the same world anymore, but does still have a village near spawn @ coordinates 3104, 64, -43. No longer a ravine, but a few cave entrances in the village center.
