In the desert to the east is a spider dungeon on the surface. It's got some very nice items in the two chests - let's just say it's a perfect start for your first steed.

About 60 blocks to the north is a desert village. No farms, though it does have a smithy. A few useful items in the chest, but nothing particularly amazing. This is the view from the hill overlooking the village (the forest above is where you spawn, and in the top left corner, you can see the spider dungeon. All close together!) This is the view from atop the hill, where you can see some odd holes in the sand.

If you dig down in one of those holes, you can find something amazing. Dig out the sand and gravel, and follow the hidden cave underneath. I was amazed the first time I saw this, but then I noticed that hole in the bottom. Head down...

The bottom of the pit, looking into the hole. You'll run into a solid wall of sandstone! I've already dug a staircase upward. Let's go see what's inside. (Pay no attention to the photobombing bat. It just encourages him.)

That's right - it's a buried desert temple! It's completely invisible from the surface. Here you can see what would have been the entrance on the left, and my staircase on the right. I'll let you discover what is in the chests!
